As China’s urbanization enters a stage of deep development, the optimization of existing urban environment and the improvement of building stock have become the key issues to improve the overall urban environmental quality, which have drawn increasing social concern. Based on the teaching practice “Urban Micro-regeneration” for the graduate course, which was initiated by the School of Architecture, Tsinghua University, this book studies Beijing’s Dashilan historical and cultural block, and adopts multiple points of view of architecture and sociality to excavate the real life demand of residents, and puts forward the design philosophy and bold explorations on improving people’s living environment against the backdrop of historic preservation.
