Highlights of the Theater Play Salvation Lies Within
In the afternoon of May 28th, the launching meeting of Tsinghua University Press (TUP)’s Global Reach and Elevation of Education Network (GREEN)--exchange meeting on publication of the English version of Salvation Lies Within overseas was successfully held in the function hall on the second floor of Xueyan Building, Beijing. ZONG Junfeng, Chairman of TUP, QIU Xianqing, President of TUP, SUN Yu, Deputy General Editor, YANG Aichen, Director of Executive Editorial Dept.; HAN Yubin, former Deputy General Editor of the China Standards Press of China; and actors of the play ZHANG Xinyao, JIAO Jian, YIN Songjian, LI Wen, FENG Yongzhu, ZHANG Chengbo and GE Anke attended the meeting.
ZONG Junfeng kicked off the event with an inspiring opening address titled "Let Good Publications Sail Around the World" ZONG Junfeng noted that the publication and worldwide dissemination of the Salvation Lies Within serve as a vivid example of TUP's growing capacity in international publishing. This work has brought hope to many families grappling with the challenges of raising "troubled teens". The very parents who found solace in its pages turned advocates, propelling its global journey. Therefore, he emphasized the importance of planning books that embody depth, breadth, and warmth. ZONG Junfeng hoped that concerted efforts will be made to build TUP into an internationally influential publisher by sharing excellent cases of international publishing against the backdrop of global cultural diversity.

SUN Yu elucidated the founding purpose of TUP’s Global Reach and Elevation of Education Network (GREEN), highlighting that GREEN signifies renewal, embodying immense vitality and forward momentum that aligns seamlessly with the objectives and aspirations of this innovative workshop. Following the Tsinghua University 2030 Global Strategy, the International Cooperation Department at TUP has initiated the GREEN Workshop. This platform is designed to facilitate dialogue among editors, authors, scholars and international publishers, thereby amplifying the visibility of successful publishing endeavors and ensuring TUP’s voice reverberates across the international stage.

YANG Aichen shared her international publishing experience of Salvation Lies Within under the title "Let True and Beautiful Stories Warm the World." YANG Aichen pointed out that it is the job and responsibility of Chinese editors to tell Chinese stories well in the world. The "going global" of Salvation Lies Within has been a tribute to long-term support from colleagues at all levels of TUP and the cooperation from various departments. The foresight of TUP management and their accurate prediction are the cornerstone of the title’s success. YANG Aichen mentioned that two months ago, the Salvation Lies Within (English edition) was released at Nanyang Technological University in Singapore. The news of the book launch attracted public attention and media coverage from over 100 agencies around the world, such as the Associated Press, Fortune Times, Xinhua News Agency, etc. The lively dialogue and dramatic language of Salvation Lies Within inspired the editorial team to break the norm and boldly try to adapt the book into a theater play for marketing. In addition, when editing the manuscript, the editorial team extracted information from the original Chinese manuscript, and reconstructed the content of the English version for English readers. In conclusion, editors should be good at integrating resources, using various media channels to extend the influence of their publications both at home and abroad.

The actors of the play shared their thoughts. Actor JIAO Jian, who plays Mr. Ye, said he was deeply touched by the performance and hoped to do his part to benefit more children with patience and love. YIN Songjian, who plays Mr. Jia, said that education, especially special education, should not be absent from modern civilization. The experience of performance is also an education for him. He also hoped that the marketing of the title could be supplemented with internet technology, such as short-form dramas, films and TV dramas, to foster cross-border cooperation between the publishing and drama & film industries.

HAN Yubin said that it is a fruitful, inspiring and creative meeting, which builds on past achievements and launches a new journey. TUP attaches great importance to the social benefits of its products and raising public awareness of books through various innovative means, including the theater play, which not only improve the corporate culture, but also serve as a vivid example of telling Chinese stories well. At the same time, he also suggested integrating relevant publishing resources, keeping close contact with newspapers and online media, and striving to seize more opportunities for international communication.

In the final discussion, the editor of TUP mentioned that the rehearsal of the play not only brought marketing resources, but also provided a way for the title to go global. Actors of the play also shared their views on the international publishing of Salvation Lies Within, which reflects the humanist values. Education for special children is a common cause of all mankind and a common moral responsibility across national boundaries, cultures and religions.
