The Symposium on Journal Management Research and Exchange by China Academy of Medical Sciences was Held in TUP
On the morning of September 4th, 2024, the symposium on Journal management research and exchange by China Academy of Medical Sciences (CAMS) was held at Tsinghua University Press (TUP). ZHANG Yan, Deputy Director of Science and Technology Management Department of China Academy of Medical Sciences, ZHANG Ling, President of Union Medical College Press, KONG Zhaoxia, Head of Journal of China Academy of Medical Sciences, LI Jie, Academic Editor of China Medical Science Journal (English), GULI Danna, Science and Technology Management Department of China Academy of Medical Sciences, and CHEN Lu, Editor of Journal of China Academy of Medical Sciences, QIU Xianqing, Chairman of TUP, ZHAO Xin, President of TUP, LU Xianhe, Executive Deputy General Editor and Vice President, and SUN Yu, Deputy General Editor of TUP attended the symposium. QIU Xianqing extended a warm welcome to the visiting experts from the CAMS and expressed his gratitude for their support of TUP. He emphasized that Tsinghua University Press (TUP) actively engages in the publication of scientific and technological journals, which aligns with the national strategy for self-reliance in science and technology. This initiative also implements directives from the Central Propaganda Department, the Ministry of Education, and the Association of Science and Technology. Moreover, it plays a crucial role in supporting Tsinghua University’s strategies for discipline development and talent cultivation. TUP’s journal construction is globally oriented, committed to building first-class journals and premier journal platforms to comprehensively support national scientific and technological advancement.

ZHANG Yan thanked the management and editors of TUP, and provided an overview of the China Academy of Medical Sciences(CAMS). She highlighted the challenges currently facing journal publishing and expressed her hope that through the symposium, she could learn from TUP’s successful experiences and advanced practices. The goal is to explore a sustainable approach to journal publishing that aligns with the specific circumstances nowadays.

ZHAO Xin expressed his gratitude to the experts for their recognition of TUP’s journal publishing work. He emphasized that TUP’s journal publishing efforts are closely aligned with the discipline construction and talent cultivation initiatives at Tsinghua University. The fundamental requirement for journal publishing is to enhance academic standards and influence, serving as a critical platform to engage in the global academic exchange, and promote the scientific dialogue. As conduits for knowledge dissemination, publishers bear the significant responsibility of delivering high-level, high-quality knowledge processing services. ZHAO Xin hoped that the interaction between the two institutions would help explore a sustainable development path for journal publishing that yields both social and economic benefits. He also anticipated strengthened cooperation between the two sides in the areas of academics, scientific research, and publishing.

LU Xianhe stressed the importance of talent in journal publishing and emphasized the need to enhance the personnel training system and the evaluation system. He also highlighted the importance of reasonably setting and managing the relationship between academic indicators and management indicators in journal publishing.
SUN Yu, Deputy General Editor of TUP shares her views on journal publishing.
SUN Yu shared the experience of establishing medical journal groups and provided a detailed introduction to the current status of journal publishing and publishing platform at TUP. She reviewed the challenges encountered during the initial stages of launching the journals and discussed the solutions implemented. She also elaborated on the promotion system for outstanding talents, and platform construction related to publishing operations.
Experts attending the meeting held in-depth discussions on two topics: “Management and management of medical journal clusters: concept, system and practice” and “Position Setting and Personnel Management of Editorial Departments Under the Mode of Scientist-Run Journals”. ZHANG Ling, KONG Zhaoxia, LI Jie, and others shared their experiences, outlined the issues existing in the establishment and operation of journals, and offered valuable suggestions.
