TUP Attends Zagreb’s 46th INTERLIBER Book Fair
Interliber, the 46th International Book Fair, was inaugurated on November 12th at the Zagreb Fair in Croatia. The six day event will feature over 300 exhibitors from 14 countries, with Hungary being this year’s Country in Focus. ZHAO Xin, president of Tsinghua University Press (TUP), and SUN Yu, deputy general editor, attended the book fair and showcased high-quality titles in the fields of computer science, as well as the humanities and social sciences.
The Interliber Fair was opened by Zoran Milanović, President of the Republic of Croatia, who joined QI Qianjin, China’s Ambassador to Croatia to greet the delegation of Chinese publishers. ZHAO Xin exchanged cordial remarks with them and expressed the wish to enhance Sino-Croatian cultural cooperation. Also present at the opening ceremony are guests from Hungary, including Péter Nádas, the Hungarian writer, Csaba Demcsák, the Hungarian ambassador to Croatia, and Tomislav Tomašević, Mayor of the City of Zagreb, all of whom emphasized the importance of promoting publishing, books, reading and knowledge.
ZHAO Xin was invited to address the audience on a dialogue event with Croatian publishers, during which he quoted an ancient Chinese saying to the effect that “those with shared aspirations will not consider physical separation by mountains and seas a long distance”. He underscored that, although the exhibitors and readers come from all corners of the world, they gathered together for the common pursuit of knowledge. Books, as a bridge for cultural exchange, enable people from different cultural backgrounds to exchange ideas, inspire thoughts, and yield profound insights.

During the book fair, ZHAO Xin and SUN Yu met with representatives from the University of Zagreb Press, delving into the development strategies of university presses and exploring potential avenues for future collaboration. They also held discussion with Ervin Curt from Medicinska Naklada, a prominent Zagreb-based medical publisher, to explore topics in the publication of medical books and journals, as well as possibilities for academic exchanges.
