On January 1, 2025, Professor PENG Kaiping from Tsinghua University appeared on CCTV’s “Beauty of Reading - New Year Reading Night”, a large-scale live reading event. In his speech, he addressed the topic of “emotion management of employees”, discussing the challenges faced in today’s workplace and proposing solutions.
Speech by Prof. PENG Kaiping from Tsinghua University
Professor Peng analyzed the prevalence of low morale in the workplace and offered practical solutions. Firstly, he emphasized the importance of maintaining a harmonious work-life balance, ensuring that both aspects support one another and minimize conflicts. Additionally, he advocated for a psychological principle focused on satisfaction rather than constant optimization, warning against the pitfalls of perfectionism that can lead to relentless self-criticism. He recommended using emotional regulation techniques, taking time to recharge the mind and body through effective rest, strengthening interpersonal relationships and expanding one’s social network. By seeking emotional support, individuals can better navigate emotional challenges in the workplace, transforming emotional difficulties into resources for personal growth.
Professor Peng’s new book, Emotional Psychology in Everyday Life, published by Tsinghua University Press (TUP), was recognized as one of the Annual Selected Good Books from CCTV’s “Reading” Program in 2024 due to its significant practical value. The book explores 27 different emotions, identifying key, often overlooked motivations behind them, and guides readers in recognizing and managing their emotions to enhance life quality and foster happiness.
Since its release in May 2024, the book has already undergone 11 reprints within just 8 months and has garnered multiple accolades on various authoritative bestseller lists. It was included in the “May List of 2024 China Good Books”, the bestseller list for May and June in China Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television Journal, as well as the “the 4th List of Jinghua Good Books in 2024”. Additionally, in September, it was featured in the 24th issue of “Xinhua Recommended Books”, and by December, it has been recognized as one of the bestsellers on the annual list of China Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television Journal, along with being highlighted as one of the Annual Selected Good Books from CCTV’s “Reading” Program in 2024.
