PREFACE
This book contains the proceedings of 8th International Conference on Solid¡úSolid Phase Transformations in Inorganic Materials, PTM2022. PTM2022 was organized by The Chinese Society for Metals (CSM) and co-sponsored by The Japan Institute of Metals and Materials (JIM), Materials Australia (MA), The Chinese Materials Research Society (C-MRS), The Korean Institute of Metals and Materials (KIM) and The Minerals, Metals & Materials Society (TMS). We would like to express our gratitude to all the sponsors for their strong support.
Previous PTM conferences were held in Pittsburgh (USA,1981), Cambridge (UK, 1987), Farmington (USA, 1994), Kyoto (Japan,1999), Phoenix (USA, 2005), Avignon (France, 2010) and Whistler (Canada, 2015). PTM conferences are usually held every 5 years, and this PTM conference was originally planned in 2020. However, it was postponed to 2022 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. PTM 2022 follows the tradition of PTM conference series to provide a forum for the in-depth discussion of recent advances in the field of solid-solid phase transformations. Considering the COVID-19 pandemic around the world, PTM2022 was held from June 27 to June 30, 2022 in a zoom webinar manner. Notwithstanding all pandemic related problems over more than two years, we still receive more than 340 abstracts, and this proceedings contains more than 100 peer-reviewed papers. We would like to express our sincere gratitude to all participants for their support and passion for PTM conference.
PTM2022 continues the awarding of Hillert-Cahn lectureship and Aaronson award initiated at PTM2010 and PTM2015, respectively. The Hillert-Cahn lecture awardee for PTM2022 is Prof. Tadashi Furuhara, Director of the Institute for Materials Research (IMR), Tohoku University, Japan. Prof. Tadashi Furuhara will deliver one of the plenary lectures of PTM2022. The Aaronson awardee will be selected by Aaronson award selection committee (Prof. Matthias Millitzer, Prof. Tadashi Furuhara and Prof. Annika Borgenstam).
Technical program of PTM2022 follows the approach of PTM2015 with invited and contributed presentations in six thematic sessions: (1) Diffusional transformations, (2) Displacive transformations,
(3) Advances in experimental techniques, (4) Advances in modelling and simulation, (5) Industrial applications and (6) Emerging areas.
We indeed faced a lot of challenges in organizing PTM2022 due to the pandemic. PTM2022 could not be possible without the great support from you. We would like to use this opportunity to express our sincere gratitude to the International Scientific Committee of PTM2022 for their valuable suggestions and support. We are very grateful to Prof. Qing Song, Mr. Xin Zhao, Ms. Fang Liu from CSM and Dr. Jiali Zhao, Dr. Xuequan Rong, Ms. Jiesi Liu from Tsinghua University for their great contribution to conference planning and management. We also thank Dr. Yongfang Lu from Tsinghua Press for preparing the proceedings. Finally, we acknowledge the financial support from Tsinghua University.
