This book consists of 8 chapters. Chapter 1 describes the definition, origin, and development of artificial intelligence, provides an overview of cognitive perspectives from various AI schools of thought, and lists research and application areas within the field. Chapters 2 and 3 primarily delve into traditional AI's knowledge representation methods and search reasoning techniques. Chapter 4 elucidates fundamental knowledge of computational intelligence, including neural computation, fuzzy computation, evolutionary computation, artificial life, particle swarm optimization, ant colony optimization, and more. Chapters 5 to 8 discuss major application areas of artificial intelligence, such as expert systems, machine learning, automated planning, natural language understanding, and beyond. In comparison to the 5th edition, many topics are introduced for the first time, like core AI technologies, ontology-based knowledge representation, a variety of bio-inspired algorithms, new types of expert systems, speech recognition, corpus linguistics, and deep learning.
