From June 18 to 22, 2025, the 31st Beijing International Book Fair (BIBF) was held at the China National Convention Center. This year's BIBF brought over 1,700 exhibitors from 80 countries and regions, featuring 220,000 titles from around the world across 60,000 square meters of exhibition space. Malaysia was the guest country of honor, bringing multicultural charm to the event.
At this year's exhibition, Tsinghua University Press (TUP) brought to life its theme “Thriving with Grace in the Age of Artificial Intelligence” through a thoughtfully designed, open-concept space. Moving away from traditional enclosed booths, TUP opted for an inviting and modern layout that balanced technology and human-centered design. A modern aesthetic was featured by combining transparent materials with TUP's signature purple branding. At the heart of the booth stood a thoughtfully designed "Reading under the Tree" area, where visitors could explore academic, educational, and popular science books amid lush greenery—serving as a physical representation of knowledge's organic growth and its connection to both tradition and innovation. This spatial arrangement went beyond mere visual appeal. It promoted consideration of how literacy must adapt to new technologies while preserving humanistic values, and the evolving nature of knowledge. The space also invites visitors to engage with emerging technologies through a lens of thoughtful curiosity.
In terms of exhibition design, TUP introduced creative features like a check-in wall composed of book and journal titles, a cohesive visual identity, and an immersive "screen-within-a-screen" LED installation, greatly enhancing visitor engagement and creating natural gathering points for discussions. TUP's distinctive aesthetic and thoughtful execution earned widespread recognition from industry professionals and attendees alike, making it one of the most memorable exhibits at this year's BIBF.
Beyond its striking design, TUP presented a robust collection of over 300 premimum titles across its core publishing categories, along with a dedicated section for international editions—featuring more than 100 titles published overseas. TUP also highlighted 58 academic journals and showcased core digital solutions, including a digital rights management system, digital textbook platforms, and the Wenquan Knowledge Base, collectively demonstrating TUP's comprehensive capabilities in both traditional and digital publishing spheres.
Members of TUP's executive leadership team, including QIU Xianqing, ZHAO Xin, LU Xianhe, SHI Lei, and LIANG Ying, participated in BIBF's key events and held productive meetings with leading international publishers such as Springer Nature, Elsevier, John Wiley & Sons, and MCBooks to strengthen existing collaborations and explore new opportunities. ZHAO Xin recommended the new book Quantum-Resistant Crypto-Chip: Dynamically Reconfigurable Architecture for Multi-Problem Support to readers, with coverage by multiple media outlets including China Publishing & Media Journal.
Aligning with the AI theme, TUP organized 12 book launches and recommendation events, covering topics from technology and business to career development and mental health. These well-attended sessions received coverage from major media outlets including China Daily, Global Times, and China Education News. Highlights included the launch of several significant titles: Medicinal Chemistry and Drug Development (English edition), Tsinghua High School General Education Series for Children (Vietnamese edition), Tsinghua-Springer Physics Series, Tsinghua K-12 AI General Education Series (Traditional Chinese edition), Driving Value with Sprint Goal: Humble Plans, Exceptional Results, Intelligent Technology and Energy Revolution, Artists' Books, Real Dividends: Decoding the AI Boom, AI for Beginners: The First Step into Artificial Intelligence, AI-Powered Public Speaking: Influence in Key Moments, A Brief History of User Experience, The Cave in the Heart, Through Heart-Mind: Finding the Secret of Digital Wisdom. Notably, “AI Companion--Reading for the Future”, a new QR-code-based resource management system was launched. It enhances print-digital integration, improves anti-piracy measures, and boosts editorial efficiency.
TUP also engaged in international rights trade discussions, deepening exchanges with publishers from Europe, the U.S., and the Belt and Road countries, laying a solid foundation for future collaborations.
The 2024 Chinese Books Overseas Impact Report, unveiled at BIBF, revealed that 61 titles from TUP were collected by international libraries, placing it at the 43rd rank among all mainland Chinese publishers, while its English editions secured an impressive second place in overseas library collections.
