A seminar on building world-class sci-tech journals and platforms, part of the Great Wall Engineering Conferences, was held at Tsinghua University on November 25. Hosted by Tsinghua University and organized by Tsinghua University Press (TUP), the event brought together over 150 experts and scholars from government agencies, research institutes, scientific associations, universities, journal publishers, and technology companies.

Dr. LI Luming, President of Tsinghua University and Member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), delivered the opening remarks. WU Huaqiang, Vice President of Tsinghua University, presided over the meeting.
LI extended a warm welcome to all the guests on behalf of Tsinghua University. He said that the university places a high value on the development of sci-tech journals, which are a significant component of the academic ecosystem, and has achieved fruitful outcomes through distinctive publishing practices.
Looking ahead to the 15th Five-Year Plan period (2026-2030), LI outlined Tsinghua's priorities. The university will focus on national strategic needs and key fields, promote closer integration between journal development and disciplinary advancement, and build a cluster of high-quality journals based on its leading disciplines. It will also leverage its technological strengths to drive the smart upgrade of publishing platforms, strengthen global collaboration and create a healthy publishing environment that aligns manuscript sources with appropriate journals, thereby making greater contributions to the academic community in China and worldwide.
During the keynote speech session, co-chaired by ZHAO Xin, President of TUP, and Dr. LUO Jianbin, Professor of Mechanical Engineering at Tsinghua University and a CAS Member, several distinguished speakers shared valuable insights on relevant topics. The speakers included WANG Su, Deputy Director of the China Association for Science and Technology Service Center; Lyndsey Dixon, CEO at Dixon & Straub; ZHANG Tieming, President of the Society of China University Journals; LI Jing, Director of Strategic Cooperation and Innovation at Wiley China; TANG Jie and ZHAO Xin, Professors of Computer Science at Tsinghua University.
During the roundtable discussion, co-hosted by LIU Yiqun, Director of Tsinghua University's Research & Development Affairs Office, and ZHUANG Hongquan, Vice President of TUP, participants discussed the development of university sci-tech journals, exchanging ideas on the key elements, opportunities, and challenges involved in the growth of scientific journals, with representatives from universities such as Beihang University and Shandong University sharing updates on the progress of their journals.
The seminar aimed to foster in-depth discussions on accelerating the development of world-class scientific journals and digital publishing platforms under new circumstances while also exploring innovative approaches to the development of scientific journal portfolios.
