Dr. SUN Yu, Associate General Editor of TUP, Elected to the STM Association Board: Chinese STM Journal Development Gains Global Recognition

On 6?October 2026, the International Association of Scientific, Technical & Medical Publishers (STM) held its annual conference in Frankfurt, Germany, where the incoming Board was elected. Dr. SUN Yu, Associate General Editor of Tsinghua University Press (TUP), was elected as a Board Member for the Association's Non Europe/Non US Company seat. The Board consists of 15 board members from diverse publishing and academic institutions.

SUN Yu is elected as an STM Board Member.

Dr. SUN holds doctorates in both medicine and management, and is a Senior Editor?Researcher and postgraduate supervisor. She was formerly President of Military Medical Press and has served Associate General Editor and Head of the Life Sciences and Medicine Division at TUP since 2018, with extensive expertise in journal and book publishing.

In her keynote speech entitled “Chinese STM Journals in Practice”, Dr. SUN gave a systematic overview of the current state of STM journal publishing in China and introduced the cluster-based development approach. Using SciOpen, the digital publishing platform of Tsinghua University Press, and journals such as Health Care Science as examples, she elaborated on topics including boosting the international impact of Chinese scholarship, building professional journal brands, and establishing publishing ethics frameworks.

Dr. SUN said that she would make the most of the opportunity offered by the STM Association as an international platform to play a greater role in industry policy discussions and to promote exchanges and collaboration between Chinese and overseas publishers in journal operations, science communication, and digital platform development. These efforts will support the continued development of Chinese STM journals and foster communication between China's and the international scholarly publishing community.

The International Association of Scientific, Technical & Medical Publishers (STM) is the global trade association that represents the world's leading scholarly publishers, as well as organisations that provide services and support within the scholarly publishing ecosystem. The Association comprises 161 institutional members from 21 countries, from small publishing houses to society publishers to large commercial publishers. Its members are collectively responsible for more than 60% of the global annual output of research articles.
